The name’s Abernacky – Abernacky Anvilslayer – and I’ll be settin’ out on a journey across Telon soon. I don’t much care for stayin’ home and being cooped up in Bordinar’s Cleft any longer. My pa’s not too happy about it, but he isn’t stopping me. Truth is, I was more afraid of leaving fore the trouble it’d cause him. We Anvilslayers are just about gone. My pa and I are the only two we know. He says he doesn’t remember much about our family line, but I know he does. I heard him in his sleep once talkin’ about the Anvilfists, but none of them seem to know if we’re directly related.
I’m one a’ those Dwarves that sit around all day reading, writing and exploring. I still got plenty of natural Dwarf blood in me – my pa has taught me a lot of craftin’ and tinkerin’ – , but I also got a lot of what others call “them’ns”. We’re few and far between, and most Dwarves couldn’t be happier. We tend to spin the grindstone the wrong way with our dreamin’ of other places all the time. Maybe that’s why there isn’t anymore Anvilslayers at home. Maybe they are more like me and less like pa; They all couldn’t resist settin’ off for other sights.
So like the few before me, I’m takin’ off to see the marvels and other races in the world. I needed a place to record my travels, and this is it. Who knows, maybe I’ll run into some brothers or sisters someday.
