Stats:

Dungeon marks: N/A

Time to completion: 1 hr+(I had to skip parts for the sake of keeping the video shorter)

Map used: Crushbone Keep layout 3

Opinions:

Pixiewrath showed he or she put a lot of care and attention into mob placement and story elements in the dungeon Karen and I covered for Massively, and Quel’Stezch’s Domain lives up to that. Pixiewrath obviously loves designing. Obvious care was put into every room and each one of the many pieces of furniture and decorations jam-packed throughout the dungeon.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I skipped some mobs, areas and didn’t actually fight the ending battle, which resulted in not getting any dungeon marks. I tried to show every area, even though I didn’t play through them all, and talked extensively about the great writing and story delivery that progressed well throughout the dungeon. Every little nook and cranny is worth looking at, and in most cases, there is some witty, funny little tidbit to see and read.

Advice:

I can’t really say I have much advice. Pixiewrath seems to be a seasoned veteran of EQ2 and shows he or she put a lot of work into every aspect of this dungeon. I can’t wait to see other dungeons by Pixiewrath. The only thing I will say, that really isn’t a good or bad thing, but purely a designer’s choice is: at times, the dungeon was so crowded with furniture, fog and other effects that on the higher graphics settings, the game starts to lag a bit. It really was a joy to see on high-settings, though.

Five days of marching lead them to the edge of the mauled fields. Charred soil that went on and on. It was hard to tell how far through eyes watering from the sour, warm stench that lingered like a mournful spirit not willing to part from its earthly cage.

Mobly was the shortest of the small band of four, but height didn’t matter when looking out across what used to be the lush green plains of the Skern kingdom.

Thousands had marched and died, trampling the grass and dying the soil with the blood of the fallen. Weeks of bombardment from Slaye’s crude giant clumps of fiery tar had burnt away every last vestige of plant life. No life could be seen, save the line of trees far to the Western border of the battlefield, where the outer-most trees, half-covered in black soot almost seemed to Mobly to be trying to reach and claw their way deeper into the Forest of Sleep. The soldiers hadn’t just fallen to each other’s swords, but the bodies had then been seared by the fiery ammunition from the catapults. In the warm afternoon sunlight, hundreds of black, shriveled twigs twisted everywhere to the point the band of travelers couldn’t tell where one body ended and the next began. And it was set to all happen again.

The Anti-ice War wasn’t fought solely over the infamous Sword of Anti-ice that was tempered in a magical forge of anti-ice and fused with the scales of a dragon thought to be long dead, or even thought to only be a myth.

What was even scarier than the most powerful weapon in all the world, made with the scale of the most powerful race of creature to ever live; thought of as only a myth for hundreds of years, was the man discovered to be in possession of a single tear-drop of Gien’s essence.

The entirety of the new generation of Wood Elves and the plains Elves – the direct lineage of the Woman of Sorrow, might unite with the people of Skern to fight the war over the Sword, but the mention of Gien’s essence pushed all the Elves into their boats, sailing as far from the continent as they could, for they knew what could happen.

And yet, here stood the indomitable Human race. Thousands dead, but still thousands more marched over the far rise, in view of the intrepid group of onlookers, to never give up and try to save the day. To push back the night through dirty and bloody tears.

When I wrote, it was haphazard. I wrote when I wanted to and as often or as little as I wanted to. This is fine. This is actually great. It’s you being you, keep it up. Yes. keep it up. Learn to meld your posting style into a form of consistency – if you really want to look ahead and try to get a few more hits.

Consistency really goes a long way to getting more traffic. I’ve had friends that wrote Blogs that would send any editor into a coma. They didn’t even have any topics or cared. They new their writings were simple and trite, but they got lots of traffic, because they posted regularly.

While I started pulling my hair out at trying to take the average number of posts I wrote in a week and spread that out, evenly among the week, I was creating a lot more work for myself. I do that, even today, a little. It’s alright, I suppose, if you have the time and want to go to the trouble to schedule and try to give yourself a quota to meet, but I’d start with what you already find you can and like to do naturally.

While I went crazy scheduling, which only resulted in me crashing and missing all those deadlines that I wasted time on, my friends simply found what 1 or 2 days during the week that they realized they usually posted anyway, then they just set 1, single reminder to always post at least on that one day. They were still posting like mad, and only occasionally needing to put some work and mental energy into remembering to post on a particular day, but they mostly posted on that day, anyway. Months and months of consistently publishing at least one post every week, on the same day, saw their readership continually increase.

So, sure schedules are good, meeting quotas can be good and putting in the work is great if you can and want to. But, don’t let that stuff work against you, out of the starting gate.

Do you consistently post at least once a week or once every two weeks? Is it usually on the same day of the week? Or is it even usually between, say, a Friday and Saturday or juggled among Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday? Great! What you are doing is helping yourself make an easy, doable schedule for consistency. Now, it’s only a little effort to pick what day of the week works best for you.

It’s even easier for those that post often. My little tips are for someone who may only post once a week at all, but like my friends who posted many times on multiple days, it made figuring out a schedule, that they barely had to think about, that much easier.

Try this out to find your schedule

1. Find out how many articles you write in a week, but over the period of three or more months. If, for all three months, you wrote an average of one article a week, then that’s your schedule. If a couple weeks per month, through that 3-month period, were barren, you may want to look at making a bi-weekly schedule.

Remember, we’re not only looking at making a schedule for consistency, but one that won’t work against you and create extra work and headaches for you, as you start your new Blog. You don’t want to hit that third week and have to miss it, and then again in the middle of the second month.

2. Now, go back and find the best day of the week to post at least one of your posts on. You can post as much as you want, throughout the week, but one, consistently on the same day on a weekly, bi-weekly or even monthly schedule is creating the consistency.

Hopefully, if you were easy on yourself, you’ll find that your actually writing much more often than your schedule was created for. That’s good, especially in the beginning, to not only give you a jump-start on attracting a slowly, and consistently growing readership, but it will be easily modified and expanded, if you ever want to grow your publishing rate.

Stats:

Dungeon marks recieved: 62

Time to completion: ~50 minutes (note: this was my time, going through it slowly and providing commentary)

Server: Freeport

Map used: Lair of Scale layout 1

Opinions:

It’s a nice little dungeon. Sparsely decorated, but I did find some isolated spots of creative decorating. Contessia may not have had enough supplies, so it looks like he/she did a great job with what he/she had. Mobs are mainly single encounters with the occasional two-mob group. Seemed designed with solo play in mind.

I think the choice of map is good. Lair of Scale, at the least, has a Klingon-look to it. Good attempt at finding a suitable map.

Advice:

Besides continuing to decorate more, as supplies become available, I would, at the least, give all the main-character-mobs one-liners from the Star Trek shows. Having Spock say, upon death, “That is not logical” and Jean-Luc Picard saying “The line must be drawn HERE” or “Engage” would add to the dungeon’s experience, but it was a fun dungeon to run through and see characters from every Star Trek series.
